Solea, flamenco guitar

An improvisation in the Flamenco Solea form.

The Solea

Within the Flamenco tradition, the Solea is classed as 'cante jondo' or deep song and is possibly the most familiar form in the genre. The compas has twelve beats with a strict sequence of accents which it shares with the Allegrias form. But the Allegrias is bright, lively and in a major key, while the Solea employs the Phrygian mode and normally has a brooding, melancholy feel.
